Good afternoon all you lovely people! It’s finally 2017! That weird week between Christmas and New Year is finally over and we can now concentrate on our lives rather than the impending holidays. It’s Day Four of our two week journey and I’m so grateful that we are doing this.
This will be the first year that the Minimalist Soul is in existence. I decided to take the leap of faith and start it just a little less than a month ago. The support and love it has received has been more than inspiring. Its honestly probably a huge reason why I’m so excited to start this New Year. I get to start it with amazing people, doing something that I love. So once again thank you for everyone whose reading this, you’re views mean everything to me. Start the Year off Right
But for now lets think about the first post for the New Year. For some, its just another day, and honestly it really is. Its another day, in another year. Everyday is a new start so really what makes today so much different than tomorrow. Well I can tell you, today is quite different from tomorrow because today is the only day out of the whole year that most of the population is full of hope. Even if tomorrow we forget about our resolutions, today we all have so much hope for what the next few months will bring.
To make the most of the new year and all this hope that we are feeling for it, lets focus on three things: giving thanks, losing the negative, and focusing on the positive.
Be Grateful for 2016
Are you one of those people who didn’t think that anything good happened in 2016? If you really feel that way, I think you should do some soul searching. Yes, some unsavory things happened in the world. Some negative feelings arose in your life at some point. But was your year really that awful? Well if it was I’ll be the first to apologize. But even with all the negative, I think you can find at least one thing to be grateful for.
Today, I’m going to sit down and think about everything that I’m grateful for that happened in 2016. These are the things that I want to carry with me into 2017. These are the things that changed me into who I am today, so even if they started off bad, they ended as something good. Practicing being grateful like this now, is a great exercise to continue doing it for the rest of the year. That way if you really don’t feel like you should be grateful for anything that happened, at least your grateful that it’s over and that you grew from the situation.
Bye-Bye to the Negative
People in life will try to bring you down. Your greatest fans can really be your biggest cynics and a stranger could really be your biggest supporter. Your good fortune and your happiness is something that is unknown to them so they lash out the only way they know how- by being negative.
Bad things can happen to good people, that is life. But it’s very seldom that good things continuously happen to bad people. They don’t attract the same kind of energy that the honest, genuine person does. The sad thing is that some of these naturally negative people don’t even realize what they’re missing out on. Especially when all we want to do is remove ourselves from their realm of influence.
Seeing the negative in all situations sets us up for failure. When we give the power to the negative we are losing the ability to create room for the positive. The more positive we make out of something, the more positivity our lives will suddenly happen upon. If something bad happens, be grateful for the opportunity, take a deep breath, think of the positive, and keep moving forward.
2016 is officially over. The only way it can linger is if you allow it to. So let’s just take a moment to say bye to the negative that had come with that year. Think about it, picture it, roll it all up in a ball in your mind’s eye and throw it all away. Take a deep breath, let it out, open your eyes, don’t forget to smile! It’s a new year filled with endless possibilities! Don’t let the past pull you down. Who cares what someone said or about that awful day you had. It’s not here anymore. It’s gone. Let’s live life in the moment and take away any and all power that some negative forces may have over you.
And Say Hello to Being Prosperous
Each New Year is what you make of it. Some say that 2016 was the worst year but those same people say 2015 was a bad year. If you change the way you see your year, you change the way you feel about it as well.
That doesn’t mean that challenges won’t present themselves but you deserve to see the positive in them. Each challenge is an opportunity for growth. Anxiety, depression, death, political change, falling outs, break ups, betrayals, hardships, they are all ways for us to grow.
Personally, I am grateful for these challenges. If you aren’t happy with something, change it. But don’t be unhappy with something because of someone else. Don’t let their negativity have that power over you. Have the courage to fight for what you believe in. Stand up for yourself. Stand proud and strong.
You deserve to be happy in every moment. You deserve to spoil yourself with positivity. Don’t let anything or anyone else feel otherwise. Yes, overcoming something’s are difficult. Tears, sweat, and blood will be your allies in these circumstances but remember you deserve it. It will be worth it.
You don’t need the new year, new me mentality. You are already perfect the way you are. But you have to be you! Instead let’s say “new year, all me“. Let’s get rid of this idea that we need to change who we are to see results. You just need to change your habits, because yes even the way we think about things is a habit. But who we truly are, now that’s a peak into our soul. And we can’t change that.
For this new year lets stand up for ourselves. Welcome positivity into our lives and offer it back into the world. If someone or something tries to bring you down, remember who you are and what they/it are. Take it with a grain of salt and keep moving forward. Don’t let stagnation be an option this year. Let progress and the chance to prosper drive you through what is to come. I believe in each and every one of you that read this. We can do it. Now let’s make 2017 the best one yet.
